BioDo Deyrehn est une artiste nouvellement installée, qui vit et travaille à Paris. Do possède une maîtrise en histoire de l’art et une thèse de 3e cycle de l’École du Louvre. Historienne de l’art, elle se forme au tirage en chambre noire en 2017 puis développe sa démarche photographique avant de créer son studio, puis ce site.

Présentation

‘‘Je travaille sur la recréation des souvenirs liés à l’enfance, à partir de sujets comme la nuit, les maisons, les objets et les images elles-mêmes.
Nuits et autres jours est le nom générique de l’ensemble qui réunit ces séries ou suites.

 Pour retraiter les souvenirs, je suis passée de l’acte de photographier des lieux à celui qui consiste à photographier des images. Parallèlement à cette approche, j’ai commencé à scénariser des situations, des expériences ou encore des expressions du langage courant, en associant objets ou images.
L’opacité, le blanc surexposé, le flou ou au contraire des lignes et couleurs saillantes en partant d’un point, m’intéressent formellement et conceptuellement. Le style d’une série va dépendre du sujet traité et de l’intention. Combinés à une couleur choisie (comme dans SÉRIE NOIRE, WHITE, BLEUS), ces composantes constituent chaque fois un fil conducteur.
Je cultive une approche artisanale tout au long d’un processus expérimental, attentif et soigné, recomposant ou rephotographiant parfois mes images pour les transformer. L’expérience de la photographie argentique et le travail en chambre noire ont façonné un intérêt pour la fabrication de l’image, pour la matière, transposés ensuite à l’image digitale couleur et dans le choix d’un papier spécifique aux tirages et à leur encadrement.
L’histoire de l’art, la musique, le cinéma sont de constantes sources d’inspiration.’’&#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;
Le travail est visible toute l’année au studio lors de Journées portes ouvertes et sur rendez-vous.

BiographyDo Deyrehn is an emerging photographer based in Paris. A self-taught artist, she trained in photography in Paris and learned english in the USA. Do holds a master’s degree in Art History and a PH.D from l’Ecole du Louvre.&#38;nbsp;
Statement&#38;nbsp;‘‘I work on the recreation of memories and on space as an expression of the relationship with others and with oneself. 
The series are currently regrouped under the title&#38;nbsp;
Nuits et autres jours, exploring the theme of houses, nights, childhood and the question of memory, with a contained narrative.
&#38;nbsp;


The opacity of the night, the vaporous or blured, the overexposed white and on the opposite sculptural and colored shapes,&#38;nbsp; sometimes combined with a prominent color (as in SÉRIE NOIRE, WHITE, BLUE.) are a formal thread for each series. The style of a series depends on the subject matter and the intention.
The experience in film photography and work in the dark room have shaped an interest in the fabrication of the image, for materiality, transposed then to the digital image and prints. 
The history of art, music and cinema are constant sources of inspiration’.’&#38;nbsp;

Après SÉRIE NOIRE sur le thème des maisons, ici, je cherche à représenter cette maison de vacances évoquée dans ABSTRAIT AVEC DES SOUVENIRS, et dont il ne subsiste peu ou pas d’image, seulement ce qu’on pourrait qualifier d’images “sans imagination” (Georges Didi-Huberman) : Il n’existe ni photographie ni film à mêmes de transcrire les souvenirs liés à cette maison. Plutôt qu’une image (une seule image), je me suis demandé si ce à quoi je voulais donner une forme - le souvenir en tant qu’image mentale - ne pourrait pas plutôt se fondre ici dans une matière, une couleur, une texture. La manière de représenter cette maison d’enfance s’est faite alors en explorant la sensation, et non plus l’image, du souvenir.Je me suis servi de magazines, de found footages et de sources personnelles (des photographies de maisons prises à la campagne récemment et archives) et j’ai utilisé à nouveau le principe de re-photographie expérimenté dans WHITE (2019-2021),&#38;nbsp;en jouant sur les réglages et la lumière naturelle lors de ces nouvelles prises de vue, afin d’obtenir une certaine couleur, texture, température et ambiance. Le flou et les bleus se sont imposés comme teinte et empreinte de ce souvenir..&#38;nbsp;

After houses in SÉRIE NOIRE, here I’m trying to represent a house from my childhood, an ordinary housing estate where I spent holidays and of which no image survives: There is neither photography or film capable of transcribing the childhood memories linked to this house. Rather than an image, I asked myself if what I wanted to give shape to was not above all a sensation, to rediscover and present the memory as a material in some way. Using magazine images, found footage and personal sources (photographs taken in the countryside recently), I once again use the principe of re-photography experienced in WHITE (2019-2021) by playing with the settings, natural light and color in these new shots, to achieve a certain texture, temperature and mood. Blur and blue emerged as the hue, atmospheric condition and material in this research.&#38;nbsp;

Tirages pigmentaires sur papier Fine Art
Commencée fin 2024, cette série pensée comme une vaste installation associant les images entre elles comporte aujourd’hui plus de 80 photographies, réunies en compositions de deux. Dans le noir, je mets en scène certains de mes souvenirs d’enfance à partir de mobilier, d’objets, d’aliments ou de jouets. Les expériences vécues et les discours entendus dans cette maison de vacances sont transformés en jeux d’esprit, images mentales, associés à des titres narratifs ou à des expressions du langage courant. 
Au départ, un seul objet, isolé de tout contexte. Puis, en gardant le principe d’abstraire, je me suis mise à agencer plusieurs éléments pour jouer avec l’idée de langage imagé.

Le titre est une citation de Paul Klee.


Pigment prints on Fine Art Paper 

This series, conceived as a vast composition and whose title is a quote from Paul Klee, currently includes more than 60 images. Here I used different settings of furniture, objects, food or toys, in order to fictionnally evoke experiences, stories, mental images or even expressions from everyday life and language. Initially, a single object, isolated from any context. Then, while keeping the principle of abstracting, I also began to arrange several elements to play with the idea of metaphorical, visual language.&#38;nbsp; &#38;nbsp;&#38;nbsp;

Tirages pigmentaires sur papier Fine Art

Avec les photographies prises en bord de mer et en atelier, il s’agissait d’explorer différentes nuances de blancs et de jouer avec la possibilité de faire des photographies comme des dessins. Dans une première étape, à partir de prises de vue à l’argentique, surexposées, j’ai utilisé les moyens techniques du tirage en chambre noire comme un crayon. Cela a permis de restituer l’intensité lumineuse et l’ambiance particulièrement solaire des paysages, d’accentuer la dissolution des formes dans la lumière ou au contraire d’en révéler les contours et les lignes. Les étapes suivantes en 2020/21 pendant le confinement ont consisté à photographier ces épreuves argentiques dans différentes ambiances lumineuses en vue d’obtenir une autre texture et couleur de fond. Je me suis alors inspirée d’un nuancier de peintures en finition mat, aux noms évocateurs comme Quiet White, Not totally White, Paradis blanc ou Grège ciment. D’un point de vue formel, cette expérience a révélé deux pistes de travail, l’une axée sur le trait et l’autre sur le flou. Et du point de vue conceptuel, le principe de re-photographier des images qui montrent des fillettes, une famille, un autoportrait au loin avec ma fille, l’agencement du mobilier de plage ou encore les planches de Deauville, évanescentes, où s’immisce l’ombre des choses, m’a permis de commencer à répondre à cette question : comment retraiter les souvenirs ?

 With these photographs taken by the sea, the ocean and in the studio, I wanted to explore different shades of white and play with the possibility of making photographs like drawings. In a first step, from overexposed film shots, I used the technical means of darkroom printing like a pencil. This made it possible to restore the luminous intensity and the particularly sunny atmosphere of the landscapes, to accentuate the dissolution of forms in the light or, on the contrary,to reveal their contours and lines. Then came a second step and the last one, during lockdown and at the studio in 2020/21 : making digital photographs of these prints in different light atmospheres. And in order to make prints on cotton paper, I refered to a color chart of paints in matte finish, referring to its inspiring names like Quiet White, Not totally White, White Paradise or Grège ciment. This experience revealed two directions of work, one focused on the line and the other more vaporous, foggier. And from a conceptual point of view, the principle of re-photographing. images that show little girls, a self-portrait in the distance with my daughter, the arrangement of beach furniture or the evanescent Deauville boards, where the shadow of things intrudes, allowed me to begin to answer this simple question : how to reprocess memories ?
